Roundtable Conference : « Europe response to the aspirations of the Arab people »

Those 2 days Conference will both host a delegation of approximately 20 civil society representatives from the Arab NGO Network for Development, including representatives from Jordan, Bahrain, the Palestinian Territories, Morocco, Lebanon, Tunisia, Algeria and Egypt. They will present viewpoints and demands from the peoples of the Arab region towards the European Union. According to the delegation’s experience and knowledge, they would also try to define how the EU can successfully support the transition process on the various political, social and economic fronts.

This event, which is being jointly organised by the Arab NGO Network for Development (ANND), CNCD 11.11.11, and Eurostep, will focus on the events of the Arab spring, the issues that led to popular protests, and the aspirations that people have for the future.

The aim of the event is to increase understanding about the current conditions in the Arab region and their potential for the future, and to look at the role that Europe and the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership could play in support of the changes that people in the region are seeking. A broad exchange of views including above all representatives from Civil Society Organisations from the Arab region, from Europe and representatives from the EU institutions would also help to define the new EU strategy towards its Southern Mediterranean partners.

The All Day Roundtable event on 28th June is going to take place at Caritas Allemagne, Rue de Pascale 4-6, 1040 Bruxelles from 9.30 am to 5.00 pm. And the Conference takes place on 29th June 2011 from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm in the European Parliament, Room PHS 4 B 001.
